Actually, reading through this random scan of an old romance comic that I found reminded me 1) that I love cheesy old romance comics, and 2) of Deconstructing Roy Lichtenstein. That's a really interesting site, and while I'm not sure if it actually devalues Lichtenstein's art (it was always obvious that he was just replicating comic book panels), it certainly shows that the original illustrations are much better than his blow ups. Poses seem more natural, people seem more balanced. Perhaps I do have a little less respect for Lichtenstein now, and a lot more for the original comics' artists.
